Ajay Singh Chautala is an Indian stalwart politician from the state of Haryana and a member of the Haryana Indian National Lok Dal (INLD). Born on March 13, 1961, he is the son of the former Chief Minister of Haryana, Om Prakash Chautala, and the grandson of former Deputy Prime Minister of India Devi Lal, who was also the founder of INLD. He is the father of the Deputy Chief Minister of Haryana, Dushyant Chautala, who is the founder of the Jannayak Janta Party. He graduated from Kurukshetra University and holds an LLB from Rajasthan University. After fielding himself into local politics, he entered into active politics in the 1980s, when he became a member of the Rajasthan Legislative assembly from the Danta Ramgarh seat in 1989. He again became a member of the Rajasthan legislative assembly in 1993, after winning the Nauhar constituency. In 1999 he entered Lok Sabha after winning the Bhiwani constituency. He became a member of the Rajya Sabha in 2004 from the state of Haryana. In 2009, he entered Haryana legislative assembly after winning the Dabwali constituency. He was inducted as the President of the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) in September 2020. In 2013, he was sentenced to 10 years of prison by the Supreme Court under the charges of corruption in the recruitment of junior teachers between 1999 and 2000, when the Om Prakash Chautala government was in power. He is out on bail since 2020.
