#Ayodhya: Ram temple construction to start in December, says VHP
A day after the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) vowed an agitation against the Supreme Court over the deferring of the Ayodhya hearing, senior Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Ram Vilas Vedanti, on Saturday, said that he would start the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya in December. Vedanti's comments came at the two-day 'Dharmadesh' meet organised by Akhil Bharatiya Sant Samiti. Here's more.
Vedanti: Ram temple legislation will spark communal violence
Speaking on the Ram temple-Babri Masjid dispute, Vedanti said that the Ram temple would not be built through legislation or ordinances, but would be built based on mutual consensus. Vedanti added that if legislation supporting the construction of the Ram temple is passed, it would lead to unstoppable communal violence. "We do not want violence. We want peace," concluded the senior VHP leader.
On Friday, RSS had threatened an agitation against the SC
On Friday, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) vowed to launch an agitation against the Supreme Court if it did not take into consideration the sentiments of the Hindu community. The threat of agitation was made after the SC deferred the Ayodhya hearing to January. Commenting on the SC's decision, RSS general secretary Bhaiyyaji Joshi said that the apex court had "insulted" Hindus.
RSS emphasizes the need for legislation
"A legal sanction is required to pave way for the construction of the temple. The wait for the court's verdict has been too long. Since the matter was listed (for hearing) on October 29, we felt Hindus would get good news before Diwali," said the RSS general secretary.
