PM Modi predicts Congress defeat in Wayanad after Amethi loss
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a jab at Rahul Gandhi on Saturday, saying that in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, "Congress sahabzade" will lose from Wayanad constituency in Kerala after his loss in Amethi. He said Gandhi would need to find a safer seat after the Lok Sabha elections during a rally in Nanded, Maharashtra. BJP leader Smriti Irani defeated Gandhi in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, ending his 15-year reign in Amethi.
PM Modi highlights NDA's favorable voting trend
PM Modi claimed that early indications from the Lok Sabha polls showed a voting trend heavily favoring the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). In an indirect reference to Sonia Gandhi, who recently shifted to the Sabja Sabha, he said certain leaders of the opposition bloc are reluctant to contest elections, opting to shift from the Lok Sabha to Rajya Sabha instead. "For the first time, the family will not vote for a Congress candidate in the constituency," he added.
PM Modi accuses Congress of obstructing progress
The prime minister also accused the Congress party of obstructing progress for farmers and underprivileged individuals. He attributed the agricultural crisis to flawed policies implemented by Congress. "The agriculture crisis did not happen now. It happened because of the flawed policies of Congress," Modi stated. He also criticized the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc for its lack of clear leadership and internal competition, with constituents contesting against each other in 25% of seats.

"After (the election results on) June 4, they will be fighting more with each other," he said. Both the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have yet to announce candidates for the Amethi seat, which was once a stronghold of the Gandhi family. When asked about his plans in Amethi recently, Gandhi responded, "On Amethi, the party will decide. Whatever order I get, I will abide by that." Amethi in Uttar Pradesh will go to the polls on April 26.
