AAP to stage nationwide protests on first demonetization anniversary
The Aam Aadmi Party will observe November 8, the day PM Narendra Modi demonetized Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 currency notes last year, as 'Fraud Day'. It will "stage nationwide protests" to mark demonetization's first anniversary, aiming to highlight the wrong decisions taken and policies implemented by the BJP in the last three years, Delhi rural development minister Gopal Rai said on Saturday.
AAP not the only party denouncing 'Anti Black Money Day'
It's not just the AAP that will mark the demonetization anniversary by staging protests. The Congress, and Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress (TMC) had previously declared that they would observe November 8 as a 'Black Day' to bring to light the "ill-effects" of note-ban on the Indian economy. Unfazed by the criticisms, the BJP has decided to celebrate the occasion as 'Anti Black Money Day'.
AAP will turn 5 on November 26
The Arvind Kejriwal-led party will also organize a national conference on November 26 to celebrate five years of its existence, it was decided in the AAP's National Council Meeting on Thursday. Party members are expected to discuss the AAP's successes and failures so far. They will also take up other issues such as demonetization, GST (Goods and Services Tax), and farmer woes.
