Prakash Javadekar is an Indian politician who represents the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Previously, he has served as the Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and Minister of Information and Broadcasting between 2014-2021. Javadekar was born on January 30, 1951, in Maharashtra and completed his education at the University of Pune. During his college days, he was actively involved in politics and was a member of ABVP. Javadekar participated in student movements against the government during the Emergency declared by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Following this, Javadekar was appointed as the National Secretary in Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, and later he was promoted to the General Secretary position. After BJP won in the 2014 Indian General Election, Javadekar was appointed Minister of State for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also led the Indian delegation to the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference. Javadekar has also written several books and presented more than 300 articles in several newspapers on contemporary issues.
