42% approve of vile messages Sushma Swaraj received. RIP humanity!
In what is a testimony that society's humanity has fallen deep, 42% respondents of a Twitter poll started by Sushma Swaraj approved of vile tweets sent to the External Affairs Minister in the last few days. Swaraj's Twitter poll was 12 hours old at the time of press. The minister started receiving hate messages after the Lucknow Hindu-Muslim couple passport case.
Here is the poll started by Swaraj
Haters advised Mizoram Governor Swaraj to 'beat his wife'
On Friday, Mizoram Governor Swaraj Kaushal shared a screenshot of a Twitter user advising him to 'beat your wife when she comes home'. The misogynist Twitter user, who claims to be associated with IIT Delhi, said the 'beating' would teach her not to do 'Muslim appeasement'. Later, the user deleted the tweet. Attacking Governor Swaraj just shows hate-mongers can stoop to any level.
But why is Sushma Swaraj being attacked by trolls?
The controversy erupted after Sushma Swaraj was blamed by many on Twitter for issuing passports to Mohammad Anas and Tanvi Seth, and transferring the passport officer Vikas Mishra who demanded documents from the inter-faith couple. After returning to India, Swaraj liked hate tweets sent to her. Ironically, many of them were from supporters of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Sadly, the hate hasn't stopped.
Ministry spokesperson says EAM responded the way she deemed fit
"The EAM has responded to those malicious tweets and the trolling which she was subjected to in her own way and in a manner which she deemed fit. I don't think I have anything further to add on that," said Ministry Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar.
Sushma Swaraj's episode proves hatemongers won't stop
What those who agreed with the vicious trolling of the minister were thinking should make for an interesting research subject. Notably, journalists, celebrities and other public personalities, who wake up to repugnant tweets everyday, have been complaining since long that such trolls threaten civilized society. The time to do something about these vicious trolls was yesterday, but it still isn't too late.
