Mumbai: Railway introduces wireless device to issue AC train tickets
The Western Railway (WR) in Mumbai is planning to introduce new hand-held wireless devices for issuing tickets to passengers who have first-class tickets and want to travel by the air-conditioned train that runs between Churchgate and Virar. According to railway officials, a trial for the process has already been started with two devices; four more are expected to be introduced this month.

According to a senior WR official familiar with the new wireless ticketing devices, "The devices are being tested. The results are good so far, but we will be trying it for a few more days before fully implementing it." The official further said, "Commuters will also have the option of buying from ticket checkers, who can use their wireless devices for the same."
Over 20 people paid fare difference on first day: Reports
At present, commuters with first-class card tickets can get on the train and travel by paying the fare difference amount to the ticket checker on board. As per reports, more than 20 people paid the difference amount to upgrade to the AC ticket on the first day of the devices' operation. There were six ticket checkers on board to collect the fare difference.
