Mumbai court allows paternity test of child
To prove charges of adultery levelled against mother of a two-year-old, sessions court allowed to conduct the paternity-test. Her husband had committed suicide in November'13, reportedly over her affair with a co-worker. They were also arrested for abetment to suicide in Nov'13. She was two-months pregnant then. Mumbai medical colleges to have breastfeeding rooms soon
In light of ongoing World Health Organization's World Breast Feeding Week (August 1- 7), major colleges across Mumbai will soon come up with 'Hirkani Kaksh'- rooms exclusively for lactating mothers to breastfeed their children. The room will not only give them privacy but will also be equipped with facility to refrigerate milk for later use. Currently, there are only five Hirkani Kakshs in Maharashtra.
Mumbai: 35-year-old held for sexually abusing two minor boys
Police arrested 35-year-old man for allegedly sexually abusing two brothers in Vile Parle (East). The incident came to fore after boys narrated their ordeal to their school teacher, following which case was registered. He was their neighbour who lured boys with chocolates and abused them in their house. In another case, 31-year-old driver was nabbed for sexually assaulting two boys at knifepoint in Kandivali.
Petrol tanker overturns, catches fire on old Mumbai-Pune highway
A petrol tanker billowed smoke skyward after it overturned which led to fuel leakage and fire near Hiranandani building complex on old Mumbai-Pune highway in Raigad district. Atleast five people suffered from burn injuries, who are now undergoing treatment at a local hospital. Officials have deployed a heavy-duty crane to remove the tanker in order to get the traffic moving and prevent snarls.
For the first time, Bombay House to shut for renovation
Bombay House, headquarters of India's largest corporate house, Tata House, has been closed for business for the first time in 93 years as it is also set to undergo a makeover. The year-long renovation, costing Rs. 80 crore, will have tech-enabled features like a digital lobby, sound-proofing etc. It will also have a kennel/shelter for stray dogs, that have been adopted by Ratan Tata.
Mumbai University misses second deadline, 55% results still pending
Mumbai University (MU) missed its second August 5 deadline, with MU declaring only 265 of the 477 exam results till now. No new official deadline has been announced by MU. There are still 55% of results waiting to be evaluated. An official said that there are over two lakh answer sheets from the commerce faculty, which are yet to be evaluated.
Panvel-Nerul train services suspended following a rail block
Special local trains will be running at Mumbai - Nerul and Thane - Nerul sections after train services between Panvel and Nerul were stopped following a rail block. "Due to these blocks, suburban trains are likely to be more crowded. Passengers are requested to avoid travelling on foot board, roof top of locals and not to board over crowded trains," an official said.
