39 new colleges in FYJC list, admissions will be online
For the upcoming academic year 2017-2018, 39 new colleges have been added to the list of First Year Junior Colleges (FYJC) in Mumbai. This has taken the total number of colleges in Mumbai from last year's 739 to 778. Students seeking admissions in Class 11 have to complete their admission procedures online. Number of seats this year is expected to cross 2 lakh.
Mumbai's Mithi river, Versova beach water dirtiest
As per an assessment by the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), water at the mouth of Mithi river and Versova beach is the dirtiest. The pollution in the water is approximately 13 times over the safe limit. According to the MPCB, 30% of the city's sewage remains untreated and lands up in the seas. Both industrial and domestic waste are accountable for this pollution.

4 million two-wheelers altogether in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane
According to latest government statistics, the two-wheeler population of the Mumbai Metropolitan region has almost reached the 4 million mark. A senior transport official claimed that the bike and scooter population in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane has surpassed 39.2 lakh and will cross 40 lakh in few weeks. Statistics disclose that the number of motorcycles in Mumbai itself crossed the 1 million mark.
Highest number of girls in Maharashtra make it to JEE
The maximum number of candidates that have made it to the JEE Advanced exams are from Uttar Pradesh, followed by Maharashtra which is followed closely by Rajasthan. Of the 2.2 lakh candidates clearing the first barrier of JEE (Main), 19% were girls; the largest number of girls were from Maharashtra. 1.74 lakh students altogether will appear for the IIT-JEE Advanced exam on 21st May.
