South Mumbai recorded less FIRs than the western region
The 2017 crime data reveals that South Mumbai recorded 4,312 cases out of the total 17,051 cases registered across Mumbai. "The region recorded less than half the FIRs filed in the western region." Police officials said the region's crime has been in control due to the presence of the Mantralaya and police headquarters in the area that has round-the-clock patrolling.
Bandra-Andheri stretch recorded 199 rape cases in 2017: Report
Meanwhile, the Bandra-Andheri stretch despite being one of the most-plush areas in the city recorded around 199 rape cases in 2017, that equals to one-fourth of the total 752 rape cases across Mumbai. Police officials said, most of these rape cases were registered against live-in partners and many others were committed under the false pretext of marriage, as no complaints were made against strangers.
