Survey: Dadar is Mumbai's dirtiest railway station
The Quality Council of India considered toilets on railway stations and management of tracks, dustbins and conducted a nationwide cleanliness survey of 407 railway stations. No station from Mumbai featured in the top 10 cleanest stations. Dadar station was discovered to be Mumbai's dirtiest major railway station; it ranked 330th out of 407 stations. Mumbai's Metro-III construction begins today
Mumbaikars must brace for traffic congestions on important roads and junctions in the coming days as Mumbai's Metro-3 construction commences today. Sanjay Jadhav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (western-traffic) said temporary arrangements have been made and will come into effect from today, till the Phase-1 construction is complete. The diversions and a looming monsoon are likely to make Mumbai's roads more chaotic.
London's noisiest hospital quieter than Mumbai's quietest
According to a study, the highest noise level recorded around a London hospital is lesser than the lowest recorded at a Mumbai hospital. Mumbai's NGO 'Awaaz Foundation' recorded decibel (dB) levels around 6 hospitals in London and Mumbai respectively. The maximum reading recorded at a London hospital was 88 dB; the lowest reading in Mumbai was recorded at the Lilavati hospital (95.1 dB).
7-year-old rape survivor denied RTE seat in Mumbai school
A Class 2 student and a rape-survivor may be forced to drop out of her school in Andheri as she cannot afford to pay her fees. The Department of Education has refused to give her admission under the Right to Education (RTE) quota just because she didn't apply through an online admission process. The Department is firm on its decision despite the child's circumstances.
Woman tortured husband's second wife to death
A woman was recently arrested by the Bhayander police for allegedly murdering her husband's second wife on 9th May. The accused, along with her mother-in-law kept the body in the house for 2 days before approaching the police. According to a police source, the first wife killed the second wife in a fit of rage when their husband was away on a business trip.
Petrol in Mumbai, costliest in the country
Within four weeks of its hike last month, the Maharashtra government has now levied an additional surcharge of Rs. 2 per litre of petrol. Petrol will now cost Rs. 76.91 per litre in Mumbai. According to sources, the government has hiked the surcharge on petrol on compensate for the diminishing revenue from traditional sources like excise and stamp duty.
