IIT-Bombay gets notified for software piracy
The Indian Institute of Technology (Bombay) was recently served with a 'license non-compliance' notice by a proprietary software major. The institute sent an e-mail to all campus residents, instructing them against the illegal usage of pirated software. City school conducts survey, 40% parents exhibit depression symptoms
The SM Shetty High School in Powai, Mumbai, conducted a survey amongst parents to identify and understand the root causes of problems faced by students. 40% of the parents reported some signs of depression; of these, 27.6% had mild depression, 10.9% had moderate depression and 2.9% had moderate to severe depression. 1,145 parents were surveyed altogether and had been counselled about the same beforehand.
BJP MLA drives Lamborghini to legislature, wife crashed it earlier
Narendra Mehta, BJP MLA from Mira-Bhayander drove his Lamborghini to the Maharashtra state legislature on Thursday. The same yellow Lamborghini had hit headlines last year; when Narendra Mehta's wife crashed it into an auto-rickshaw minutes after driving it. The Rs. 5.5 crore car was gifted by Mehta to his wife as a birthday present in August 2016.
Fees of many colleges offering professional courses curtailed
For the first time, Maharashtra's Fee Regulating Authority (FRA) has deducted the amount of fees at most colleges offering professional courses including medical, engineering, management, pharmacy, law and architecture courses. The decision came after the regulator discovered the malpractices by colleges including inflating their expenditure bills to extract additional fees from students. FRA regulates fees for all unaided professional courses in the city.
Ravindra Gaikwad apologizes to Aviation Minister, requests lifting flying ban
Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Gaikwad has offered his long-due apology to the Civil Aviation Minister, Ashok Gajapathi Raju, and has requested him to lift the ban imposed on him by airlines. In his letter, Gaikwad said he regrets whatever happened on the Air India flight and added that the restriction on his flying has impacted his "effective discharge of duties and responsibilities."
BEST, Thane, Navi Mumbai bus services may come together
A proposal to the state has been made by BEST to bring together BEST, TMT and NMMT (bus services offered in Thane, Navi Mumbai and Mira Road-Bhayander) to one platform. The primary motive of this proposal is to bring an end to unhealthy competition, followed by highest utilization of buses, better frequency and availability during peak hours.
Goregaon station to include harbour line services by December
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in the assembly on Thursday announced the extension of harbour line railway services to Goregaon station by December. Currently, the harbour line services end at Andheri. The extension work was initiated in 2011 with a completion target of June 2014. The CM further added that a sixth railway track will be added between Mumbai Central-Borivali and CST-Kurla by 2021.
