Nashik doctor removes whopping 4,100 gallstones after intense 4-hr surgery
Setting a record of sorts, a Nashik-based surgeon removed a whopping 4,100 gallstones from a man's gallbladder after a tough four-hour operation. The diameter of the stones ranged between 3mm-4mm. It took the hospital staff almost two hours to arrive at the total count of the gallstones. The patient, a 43-year-old male, is now recovering, said Dr Amit Kele, who conducted the surgery.

Yogesh Yewle, who runs a hardware shop in Nashik, was rushed to city-based Krishna Hospital on Thursday, after he complained of severe abdominal pain, a classic symptom of someone having gallstones. After a series of tests ascertained his condition, Kele, a laparoscopic surgeon, operated on him two days later. Kele said Yogesh is responding well to treatment and will be discharged next week.
Kolkata-based doc holds record for removing staggering 11,950 gallstones
The crown for removing the maximum number of gallstones sits on the head of a Kolkata-based surgeon. Dr. ML Saha and his team got enlisted in the Guinness Book of World Records for removing a staggering 11,950 gallstones from a woman's gallbladder in 2015. It took them four hours to count the number of stones. The last held record was of 3,110 gallstones.
Reasons why gallstone develop: Irregular food habits, cholesterol, obesity
Gallstones are basically hardened deposits of digestive fluid in the gallbladder, a small organ under the liver. It develops over the years if one has unchecked cholesterol, irregular food habits, or is obese. In many cases, gallstones may not even produce any symptom, as these are self-dissolvable. However, in cases where people complain of sharp pain in upper-right abdomen, surgery is the only answer.
