Maharashtra: Transport employees on strike indefinitely from midnight
Demanding salary hikes, employees of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) will be on strike indefinitely from the midnight of October 16th. Employees' demands include implementing the 7th pay commission and an interim hike of 25% until the same. The strike is expected to hit those expecting to travel during the Diwali holidays. One injured as six vehicles collide at Marine Drive
On the morning of October 16th, a 23-year-old MBA student drove his Hyundai i20 into a stationed taxi at Marine Drive. The impact was such that the taxi bumped into another parked car, which ran into another one and so on; the accident damaged 4 vehicles and 2 two-wheelers altogether. The 53-year-old taxi driver sustained injuries and the student was arrested.
Mumbai Airport's platinum jubilee to be commemorated by postage stamps
On October 15th, 1932, 28-year-old JRD Tata flew the first flight to Mumbai, which landed at the now Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSIA). In honor of the occasion, the Postal Department issued two color postage stamps of Rs. 5 and Rs. 15 each. The stamps display a present-day busy airport and an image of the airport in 1932 respectively.
Maharashtra government to establish strong social media presence
In order to propagate its perspective on social media, the Government of Maharashtra has designated the responsibility to 11 private agencies. Along with writing and sharing articles representing the state government's perspective, the companies will use platforms like Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp etc to share the government's schemes. Furthermore, these agencies will also update the government with social media's trends.
Mumbai residents lose Rs. 1.18 lakh in bank-related fraud crimes
In two different cases, a doctor's wife and an administrative officer with a private airline from Andheri (E) allegedly lost Rs. 1.18 lakh altogether to fraudsters posing as bank officials on the phone. The victims were asked to share their credit and debit card details under the pretext of redeeming points from the same. The police have registered FIRs in both cases.
BMC starts road-repair work on 99 out of 1,200 roads
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has started working on repairing 99 out of the 1,200 roads that were listed to be repaired this year. The civic body, which started this work around October 1st, is currently working on 350 out of the 931 roads that were to be fixed prior to the monsoons. Commissioner Ajoy Mehta has directed the body to fast-forward the repair work.
