Four new police stations, 186 cops to fight Mumbai's cybercrime
To fight Mumbai's rapidly increasing cyber crime cases, four dedicated police stations, one for each zone: Central, South, Eastern, Western and North, will be opened soon, Mumbai police ACP announced yesterday. He added that 186 new posts in the rank of assistant police inspectors have also been sanctioned by the government. Mumbai police already has a cyber crime police station in BKC since 2011.
To increase detection rate, "important to increase capacity and capability"
Mumbai police had also started cyber cells in all its 93 police stations in December last year, but detection rate remained low. Out of 1,361 cases registered last year, only 197 were detected; so "it was important to increase the capacity and capability," said SIG Brijesh Singh. BKC(W), Ghatkopar(E), Worli(C), Kandivali(N), and South-Mumbai police headquarters at CSMT are tentative locations for the police stations.
