Mumbai dance bar raided, police rescues 16 young women
Mumbai Police recently raided a dance bar that was posing as an orchestra bar. They rescued 16 young women from a crammed, closet-like space that had no ventilation. The police have already arrested 30 men, including 20 customers and 10 staffers from the bar and currently looking for the owner of the bar, said reports. The owner has been charged with culpable homicide.
Orchestra bar license was used to run the dance bar
A senior police inspector said that the Nityanand Bar on SV Road in Jogeshwari (West), have been running a dance bar, but they had the license of an orchestra bar. Apart from culpable homicide charges, the owner has also been charged under Sections of the Maharashtra Prohibition of Obscene Dance in Hotels, Restaurants and Bar Rooms and Protection of Dignity of Women Act, 2016.
16 women were found crammed inside the 4x4 feet room
Inspector Arjun Rajane, who led the raid, said: "When we started searching, we saw a well-hidden cavity, which led down into a small room, and that led further into another even smaller 4x4 feet room. We went in, and found 16 women crammed inside the room."
The rescued women have been sent to a shelter
The inspector added that if the raid would have continued for hours the women would have suffocated as the room had no exit whatsoever. The rescued women were all aged between 20-25 and became almost unconscious, due to the lack of ventilation. The women have now been sent to a shelter home in the city.
