Actor Koena Mitra gets obscene calls, files sexual harassment case
Bollywood actor-model Koena Mitra registered a sexual-harassment case after receiving obscene calls from a stranger. According to Mid Day, Mitra received 40-50 calls from unknown numbers over the past one week. When she answered a call, the caller offered her money for a nightout and even abused her. All 67 children born to HIV-positive women free of HIV
Responding to an RTI, JJ Hospital doctors said that repeated testings revealed that all 67 children born to HIV-positive women from May'15-May'17 were HIV-negative. "We achieved excellent results owing to a combination of three drugs - Tenofovir, Lamivudine and Efavirenz (TLE)," said Dr. TP Lahane. Effective interventions during stages of pregnancy, labour, delivery or breastfeeding prevent transmission of HIV from mother-to-child.
Mumbai: BMC asks BEST to discontinue routes with few riders
With BEST workers reeling under financial crisis, BMC has given BEST another blow, during a meeting with Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar held this week, by asking to discontinue rides that have few riders. This move comes at a time when Mumbai's second largest public transport network BEST unions have threatened to go on a strike, demanding better working conditions and salary hike.
Maharashtra records 1% surplus rainfall till July 31
According to weather bureau, Maharashtra received 550.3mm as opposed to normal rain of 543.88mm for two months till July 31, which is 1% surplus. Despite being surplus, the distribution of rainfall was uneven in several regions. Vidharbha and Marathwada received deficient rain at 17% and 20% below normal while Konkan coast (including Mumbai), Goa received excess rain at 7% and 22% above normal.
Two Chinese nationals held, diamond worth Rs. 34 lakh recovered
Mumbai cops nabbed two Chinese nationals at airport, who took off with diamond worth Rs. 34 lakh from gemstone expo in Goregaon. The diamonds were recovered from a shampoo bottle packed into a handbag. They were going to board a flight to Hong Kong and Osaka. This case saw exceptional coordination between CISF, immigration and airport authorities.
Weight loss pills might contain doses of party drug MD
Mumbai's anti-narcotics cell (ANC) is keeping several gyms/clinics under radar after it got to know that weight-loss pills/protein supplements might contain small dosages of mephedrone (MD) which could make fitness freaks an involuntary addict. The officials will take action against those who prescribe MD for weight-loss. Interestingly, ANC got to know of this from bar girls who were popping them to stay slim.
Hyderabad-Pune flight gets delayed due to bees
A Hyderabad-Pune flight got held up for over an hour after it was surrounded by a swarm of bees last week. It could take off only after a repellent spray was used to clear the bees from the area. Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) official announced that they are going to probe how bee hive was allowed to grow in an airport area.
