Mumbai doctor starts Ramzan fundraiser to facilitate surgeries for the poor
Dr Zainul Hamdulay, a Mumbai based cardiac surgeon is trying to raise Rs. 3.37 crore during the Ramzan month to facilitate expensive heart surgeries for the poor. He has his eyes set on funding 100 bypass surgeries, 100 angioplasties, and 500 angiographies. "As it is Ramzan, most of our donors are Muslims who are contributing their zakat - 2.5% of their income," he said.
Maharashtra CM says BJP ready for mid-term polls
In the wake of speculative reports about mid-terms polls in Maharashtra, CM Fadnavis said that the BJP is ready for the state's mid-polls. The Fadnavis government had announced loan waiver for the farmers after the agrarian crisis hit the state. "If someone wants to impel us to go for mid-term polls, I am confident we will be able to form government again," Fadnavis said.
Mumbai water-logging: BMC chief engineer issued show-cause notice
The severe water-logging in Hindmata in Dadar led to Municipal commissioner Ajoy Mehta issuing a show-cause notice to chief engineer Laxman Vhatkar. Vhatkar was held responsible for not getting the pumps at Britannia pumping station started on time, which led to water-logging. BMC spent Rs. 100 crore on constructing and maintaining the pumping station to ensure that there is no water logging at Hindmata.
BJP seeks ally Shiv Sena's help for Maharashtra's loan waiver scheme
The BJP has sought its ally Shiv Sena's help for effective implementation of the farm loan waiver scheme without endangering Maharashtra's fiscal health. Revenue minister Chandrakant Patel met Shiv Sena's minister Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday for discussions. Shiv Sena has threatened to go on agitation again if the scheme is not implemented with immediate effect.
Mumbai actress death: Police detains two people
The police detained two persons on suspicion of murder of actor/model Kritika Chaudhary, which the police suspect happened on the night on June 7. Police also suspect sexual advances made by the accused before killing Chaudhary. According to the police, this wasn't a planned murder. Kritika Chaudhary, who was found dead in her house, last spoke to her family on June 7.
