Mumbai: Massive fire in Goregaon guts down 25 shops
A massive fire in on Saturday morning gutted down around 25 small shops in Kama industrial estate of Goregaon in Mumbai's western suburb. However, no casualties have been reported so far. According to reports, as the fire broke out around 8 am in a two-storey building, at least 15 fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the fire.
Presence of combustible material made fire spread rapidly
Chief Fire Officer P Rahangdale said, "The building has shop-like structures, but they were being used as a factory." The gutted shops measured around about 100 sqm each. Stating that the presence of combustible material such as scrap allowed the fire to spread rapidly, Rahangdale said that it took the firefighters more than an hour to bring the fire under control.
Cause of fire yet to be ascertained, investigation underway
Adding that the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained and investigations are underway, the fire official said that initially, "It was a minor fire, but then it turned into a major fire." Rahangdale further added that since the fire broke early in the morning, there were no people in the building, as a result of which no casualties were reported.
