Mumbai iPhone users, download app, book local train tickets
iPhone owners of Mumbai, rejoice! You can now book tickets on your mobile to avail local trains of the city's suburban network. The Railway authorities, after launching a mobile ticketing app for Android users in December 2014, came up with the iOS version two weeks ago. So now you can ditch the long queues at counters by downloading the app from the App Store.
Good news for iPhone users
The 37.6 MB UTS app requires minumum iOS 8.0
The size of the UTS (Unreserved Ticketing System) app is 37.6 MB and requires iOS 8.0 version or above. The app, developed by CRIS as part of 'Digital India' is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Once you log-in, you will be asked your city. Follow the next directions on the app to book whichever ticket you want: platform, season or normal.
Other measures taken to offload ticketing counters: ATVM, OCR kiosks
Chief spokesperson of Western Railway (WR) Ravindra Bhakar said that one can use Railway(R)-wallet for booking, which can be recharged on www.utsonmobile.indianrail.gov.in or at any suburban ticket window. In order to reduce the load on ticket counters, WR has introduced other measures too, like ATVM kiosks and Optical Character Recognition (OCR) kiosks. The OCR kiosks were installed in five stations in January.
Not an encouraging start for the app; rating 2.6/5
Though it is not clear how many have downloaded the iPhone app, but till now 50 people have rated the app, maximum giving it a 1/5. Users complained that sometimes, the booking is not completed but money is debited anyway.
