Mumbai goat row: Couple accused of spreading misinformation over 'lynching'
A fresh video of the wife of Mohsin Sheikh—the man who brought goats to the Mira Road housing society near Mumbai—talking on the phone about her family being allegedly lynched by a "mob" has surfaced on social media. Meanwhile, the residents accused Yasmin Khan of sharing false information during the ruckus with the police.
Why does this story matter?
On Tuesday night, a brawl broke out in the JP Infra Housing Society after Sheikh brought two white goats to his flat to allegedly sacrifice on the Bakrid festival. A video of the family also went viral on social media, which showed them taking the goats inside their flat. A number of people gathered at the society and protested against the couple's actions.
Mob lynching is happening: Woman claims over phone call
In the latest video, Khan was heard saying in Hindi, "Mob lynching is happening outside our society." Countering this, some men said, "These people are spreading such lies... Why are you calling this mob lynching? We have all the photos and we are taking videos also." "Are you the police?" Sheikh, who was standing behind his wife, asked during the ruckus.

Residents chanted 'Hanuman Chalisa' in protest
Notably, the residents of the residential society gathered to protest against the Muslim couple and chanted Hanuman Chalisa. Sheikh said around 250 Muslim families live in the complex, and the builder had given them a designated space for keeping the goats every year. However, this year, the builder refused to do so and asked Sheikh to talk to other residents, he alleged.
Did not intend to sacrifice goats on premises: Sheikh
Speaking to India Today, Sheikh claimed he had no intentions of sacrificing the goats inside the society premises and was only keeping them for two days. "If bringing the goats inside the housing colony was against the law, they should have filed a police complaint against us. We were assaulted, molested, and mentally harassed by the mob," the couple added.
