First time ever, Mumbai Fire brigade hires 97 women
In a remarkable move, the Mumbai Fire Brigade has recruited 97 fire-women from rural parts of Maharashtra, including Sinnar in Nashik district, Jalgaon, Sindhudurg, etc. Until now, the city fire brigade had only 18 women personnel that worked at the headquarters. The new batch will now be spread over 34 fire stations in the city.
When will they join service?
From the next month, the new batch will be inducted into the department. The new recruits are currently being trained at the Regional Command Centre, Wadala, where they will be trained to control fire situations. Most of these women firefighters are graduates and postgraduates and hail from the rural parts of Maharashtra.
New recruits in the final stages of their training
P Rahangdale, Chief Fire Officer said, "These women are in the final stages of their training. And this is the first time that such a large number of women have been recruited and their formal induction is scheduled to take place in December."
