Mumbai: Fashion designer killed in minor scuffle with son
A day after her death was reported as an accident, the Mumbai-based fashion designer Sunita Singh's son was arrested in connection to her murder. The Oshiwara Police on Friday evening arrested 23-year-old Lakshya Singh for allegedly physically assaulting his mother. Sunita lived with Lakshya and his fiancée Ashpriya Banerjee, 22, in a rental flat in Cross Gate building in Lokhandwala. Here's more.
What happened between the two?
Sunita and Lakshya had an argument over a minor issue on Wednesday night, resulting in a scuffle, according to the police. Lakshya, during the fight, allegedly pushed his mother who sustained injuries at the back of her head after hitting the washbasin in the bathroom. When police reached the spot on Thursday, they had found the washbasin broken and blood stains on the floor.
How did it lead to Lakshya's arrest?
When the police asked Lakshya why he visited a jeweler after finding his mother in the bathroom, rather than calling for an ambulance, he told the police that he wasn't sure if Sunita was dead. But when the jeweler was questioned, he alleged that Lakshya told him that he had pushed his mother and she became unconscious. The police had then arrested Lakshya.
Police confirms Lakshya's arrest
Lakshya, who initially framed a story of finding his mother dead in the bathroom has been "booked under Section 304 (2) of the IPC (culpable homicide not amounting to murder)," said Additional Police Commissioner, West Region, Manoj Kumar Sharma, while confirming his arrest.
