Family attempts suicide at R-day parade ground, gets arrested
Three members of a family from Parbhani in Maharashtra were arrested for allegedly trying to commit suicide during the Republic Day parade near Shivaji Park in Mumbai on Friday. The trio was detained by the Shivaji Park police after they were found carrying a kerosene bottle and a small dagger during a routine search, half an hour prior to the beginning of the parade.
Family didn't receive any compensation post husband's custodial death
As per reports, the trio was identified as Akhilabegum Khan (35), her son Mansoor (15) and her brother-in-law Yaseen (30). After being taken to the police station, they were interrogated which revealed that they had come to immolate themselves to protest the fact that after Akhilabegum's husband Shamsher died in the police custody last year, the family didn't receive any compensation from the government.
Trio still being questioned
According to the police, "Akhilabegum said that her husband was picked up by the Nanalpeth police in Parbhani on December 25 last year and the same night, she learned that he had died in police custody."
