Mumbai: Auto and taxi fares may go up soon!
In bad news for Mumbaikars relying on autorickshaws and taxis for their daily commute, a four-member Khatau Committee suggested a price hike for these two modes of transport. The Committee submitted its report to the Maharashtra government. Transport Minister Diwakar Raote and Principal Secretary (Transport) Manoj Saunik would review it. Marginal hike in fares
Transport Minister Raote said: "I have received the report but yet to read it. We will check the suggestions and then decide on its implementation." The panel recommended a marginal hike in auto and taxi fares. The exact increase is still not confirmed.
Committee submitted report one year after appointment
The Khatau Committee was headed by the Director of Mumbai Transformation Support Unit BC Khatau and comprised Former Transport Commissioner DG Jadhav, Girish Godbole, and Nitin Doshi. The panel, which was constituted on 10 October last year, was to submit its report on the fare hike within three months. However, the Khatau committee took a year to submit a 224-page report.
