    What's the story

Three days after a 12-year-old boy drowned in a swimming pool in Mumbai, one person was arrested yesterday.

60-year-old Huzur Samandar Khan, the pool's caretaker, was arrested for neglecting his duty. Others mentioned in the FIR will be taken into custody as investigation progresses, cops said.

Mohammad Ayaan died on Tuesday when he ventured into the deep waters, despite not knowing how to swim.

    Ayaan's kin allege

30 odd children were swimming, but no lifeguard to supervise

Ayaan and his Mumbra-based cousin Mohammad Umaan went to the swimming pool attached to Future Fitness centre for an afternoon dip.

"I told Ayaan to swim in the children's pool where water is shallow, and to use safety tube," said Umaan, but he didn't listen.

He added that there were 30 odd children swimming along with them but not a single lifeguard was around.

Ambulance was called 45mins post incident, pool's owners deny allegations

Ayaan's family has also named the fitness centre's owners, Aziz Farooqi and Quddus Farooqi, in the FIR.

They not only complained of the absence of guards, but also alleged that ambulance was called in 45mins after the incident happened, aggravating the situation.

However, Farooqi denied the allegations saying that the centre is equipped with professional lifeguards.

Moreover, they said they rushed Ayaan to a nearby hospital.

Mumbra police were reluctant to lodge complaint initially, family alleges

Some reports suggested that Mumbra police were reluctant to lodge a complaint initially and Ayaan's family was made to sit for hours.

A case under IPC Section 304 (2) (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) was finally registered when the agitated parents threatened of protests in front of the police station.

Meanwhile, cops are scanning CCTV footage and questioning other witnesses.
