Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train to start a year earlier
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train that was scheduled to be completed by 2023, has advanced its completion deadline to August 15, 2022. As per a report, the civil work on the 508km-long Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor (MAHSR) has been fast-tracked and will begin in June this year. The railway authorities have advanced the completion deadline so that it coincides with 75 years of India's independence.
It is one of PM Modi's signature projects
The bullet-train project is one of the Narendra Modi government's signature projects and was launched by the PM along with Japanese PM Shinzo Abe in September 2017. An official from the implementing body National High-Speed Rail Corporation Ltd (NHSRCL), said, "Geo-technical surveys have already been done and civil works will begin in June 2018 after we receive the green signal for the entire corridor."
Tests for the bullet train have already been carried out
Tests for the train have already been carried out beneath the seabed for the underground section of the project that aims at reducing travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad from 8 hours to 2 hours. The corridor which falls within the Western Railway zone extends from Bandra-Kurla Complex to Sabarmati.
