Mumbai: Massive fire at Goregaon building kills 7; 40 injured
At least seven individuals died and over 40 others suffered injuries after a fire allegedly broke out in a multi-story building in the Goregaon West area of Mumbai. According to several media reports, the fire broke out suddenly in the shop located on the ground floor of the Jai Bhavani building on Thursday night. The fire also destroyed several two-wheelers and cars.

As per the news outlet The Indian Express, the blaze at the building was reported at around 3:05am, and a total of ten fire tenders rushed to the site to control the fire. Officials from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) confirmed that they managed to extinguish the fire after over three hours at around 6:45am.
Probe underway to determine cause of fire: Report
Locals said that clothes lying in the parking lot of the building had caught fire, after which the blaze began spreading to the entire area, according to India Today. Other media reports said that a probe was underway to ascertain the actual reason behind the devastating fire.

Mumbai Police provides update on victims
Meanwhile, India TV, quoting Mumbai Police, said that of 46 individuals injured in the fire, seven have died so far, and 39 others are currently undergoing treatment at the Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray (HBT) Medical College and Cooper Hospital. The deceased included one male and five females, while 12 men and 28 females suffered injuries in the incident.
Devendra Fadnavis reacts to incident
Reacting to the incident, Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis tweeted, "Pained to know about loss of lives in the fire incident at Goregaon, Mumbai." "We are in touch with BMC & Mumbai Police officials & all the assistance is being provided. My deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and wishing speedy recovery to the injured ones," he added.
