Mumbai: 100 locals booked for violating SC's firecrackers' order
In Mumbai, 100 cases were filed against locals for flouting Supreme Court order on firecrackers, and 53 against firecrackers vendors. The data was revealed two days after the festival of lights, and numbers vary from zone to zone. The top court, in its October order, had ruled only green crackers would be allowed to be burst from 8 PM to 10 PM.
Action taken against locals and vendors alike
Police said that along with locals, it was imperative to take action against the vendors as they sold firecrackers without proper licenses and required permissions. Before the festival, cops worked round the clock to ensure the SC order was implemented. The cases were registered between November 5 and 8, a statement of the Mumbai Police revealed.
Two were booked for bursting crackers at midnight
The first case was registered by the Trombay Police on Wednesday against two people for bursting firecrackers at midnight. The two accused, Shyam Khalidia and Sunil Pagare, were produced before a local magistrate but were granted bail. Subsequently, on Thursday, seven were detained by the Mumbai Police at Marine Drive for flouting the top court's order. They were penalized and released, police said.
Those booked will face appropriate action
Complaints were registered at Bandra and Nirmal Nagar Police stations too. The spokesperson said a number of complaints were flagged on the Twitter handle, and police acted accordingly. "Those booked under the provision for the violation, not the rule shall face action under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and The Bombay Police Act," said Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, Manjunath Shinge.
