State government, Wikipedia tie up to promote Marathi globally
On Marathi language day, while the Maharashtra Government was being slammed for not having a Marathi translation of the Governor's speech, it also announced a tie-up with Wikipedia to promote the language on a global platform. Through a press note, the government said that this move will allow Marathi-speaking population from all over the world to have a single platform to interact.
Marathi language experts feel otherwise though
"They will be encouraged to write about their native place. This would be given prominence in the Wikipedia Project page," said the press note, adding that an office in New York city will be promoting this venture. The language experts, however, are not much enthused about the venture. According to them this step is just a hogwash and attention will diverted to English again.
