Mumbai: 9-year-old molested by grandfather right before her heart surgery
In a gut-wrenching incident, a nine-year-old girl, who was admitted to a South Mumbai hospital for heart surgery, was allegedly molested by her grandfather, just a day before the surgery. He has been arrested and charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. The girl, who was apparently aware of "good touch and bad touch", complained about it to the nurse on duty, said police.
The girl was living in an orphanage
The girl lived in an orphanage in Marathwada after her mother passed away a few years ago. The NGO brought her for a heart surgery after doctors diagnosed a hole in her heart. "Her grandfather accompanied her and stayed with her... The girl told us she was lying on the bed when her grandfather touched her inappropriately," said Savalaram Agawane, a senior inspector.
She was molested on September 22
The incident took place on September 22. "She called the nurse on duty and told her about it. The nurse informed the doctor and the higher-ups were apprised. The hospital informed us about the child's complaint," said Agawane. "We have registered a molestation complaint under the IPC, and have also invoked sections of the POCSO. The grandfather has been arrested," said an officer.
