Mumbai: Patient jumps off hospital's 5th-floor washroom, now in ICU
A 35-year-old man is critically injured after he jumped off the fifth-floor washroom of Bhabha Hospital in Bandra (West), Mumbai, on Sunday. Kurshid Mohammed, who was admitted to the hospital six days ago with diabetic acidosis caused due to excessive drinking of alcohol, was getting treated for various other ailments. He is now admitted in the ICU of the same hospital.
Family got suspicious when Kurshid took long time in loo
Around 4.30 PM, Kurshid had gone to the washroom accompanied by his brother, with his family waiting outside. "They got suspicious when he did not come out after few minutes. They called the attendant, who checked the toilet, and found that Mohammed had jumped from the window," said Inspector Pandit Thakare. Guards on the ground floor rushed to the spot after hearing a thud.
'Patient was suffering from withdrawal symptoms'
Kurshid has now been admitted to the Bhabha ICU. "He has sustained a head injury, fracture of the femur and upper right arm. He is on the ventilator and is critical," said medical superintendent Dr P Jadhav, adding he was struggling with withdrawal symptoms. Bandra police are probing if he had attempted something similar earlier and whether it was an accident or suicide attempt.
