Maharashtra govt announces 1% reservation for orphans in government jobs
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis recently announced one per cent reservation quota for orphans of the state in education sector and government jobs. The decision taken in the state cabinet yesterday makes Maharashtra the first state to bring such an opportunity for the orphans. Here's more about it.
The decision will end injustice towards the orphans: Pankaja Munde
As per reports, Women and Child Welfare Minister Pankaja Munde said, "In most cases, orphans are unaware of their caste and hence can't get reservations benefits in jobs. The decision will end injustice meted out towards them for the past many years. In a way, the government has accepted their guardianship." She added that this decision will help orphans get employment and education.
Reservation to be provided under general category
The reservation announced by the state will be provided under the general category, which means out of the total jobs available under the general category, one per cent will be reserved only for the orphans of the state. Maharashtra houses at least 3, 900 orphans in its government-run orphanages; children who have no idea about their parents can avail this reservation category.
