Heavy rains to lash Mumbai today, IMD issues orange alert
Heavy downpour is expected to continue in Mumbai on Thursday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing an "orange alert" warning for "heavy to very heavy rains" for six districts in Maharashtra. Meanwhile, the minimum and maximum temperatures will hover around 23 to 27 degrees Celsius. According to the latest forecast, the nation's financial capital will be witnessing relatively less intense rains on Thursday.
Why does this story matter?
The current weather in Mumbai is a result of the southwest monsoon progressing further into the country, with heavy storms and rains lashing central, north, and northwestern India since the start of the week. Previously, the weather office said that the monsoon had covered the entire nation except for the northern parts of Rajasthan and specific areas of Punjab and Haryana.

An orange alert has been issued by the weather office for the districts of Raigad, Thane, Palghar (all bordering Mumbai), Sindhudurg, Nashik, and Ratnagiri, indicating the possibility of heavy to very heavy downpours in a couple of these areas. With the heavy downpour likely to continue till Friday in Mumbai, a "yellow alert" has also been issued by the IMD.
