You are not a dictator, Bombay HC tells Maharashtra government
The Bombay High Court recently told the Maharashtra government, "You are not a dictator," after the state government arbitrarily canceled the allotment of a 12,500-square-metre plot for a Christian cemetery in Goregaon. The court was hearing a PIL filed by United Christian Community Centre, a charitable organization, which complained about a lack of cemeteries for a large section of Christians.
HC summons officials over cancellation of cemetery plot
"We are living in a democratic society," the court further added. The bench has summoned dairy development commissioner and urban development department secretary to appear before the court on Monday to explain why land allotment for a Christian cemetery at Aarey in Goregaon was canceled. While Muslims and Hindus were given possession, the Christians did not receive it.
