Massive fire breaks out in Thane building, over 150 rescued
A massive fire broke out at the Girija Heights building in Thane on Friday afternoon. According to reports, as many as eight fire tenders and 70 firemen were rushed to the spot to take control of the situation. Even though no casualties were reported yet, at least 150 people were evacuated from the 26-storey building in Naupada area of Thane city.
Fire broke out due to a short circuit: Reports
As per initial reports, the cause of the fire has been identified as of short circuit. Chief Fire Officer of Thane fire department, Shashikant Kale said, "The fire started in the electric duct between the third and fourth floors and went up to the 26th floor. There was more smoke than fire. We doused it within an hour and rescued 150 people safely."
Two massive fire incidents reported in a day
The Thane building fire is the second fire incident reported in the city today. Earlier in the day, a major fire broke out at a studio inside Todi Mill Compound in Lower Parel area. No casualties were reported, however, a fireman received minor injuries while dousing the fire. Earlier last month, 14 people were killed in a massive blaze at the Kamala Mills compound.
