With just days left for exams, Mumbai University postpones dates
The Mumbai University has postponed exams for 30 subjects, just days ahead of the start of the semester-end exams. The varsity announced the postponement on Saturday, which includes M.Sc. (Forensic Science) and MA (Semesters I-II) papers. M.Sc. (Forensic Science) will now be held on June 4, instead of April 16. MA (Semesters I-II) exam has been postponed from April 19 to May 21.
Law department worst affected, faces maximum exam postponements
The worst casualty is the law department, which faces maximum postponements. The earlier semester results are yet to be declared, so a revised schedule will leave students with little time to apply for re-evaluation. "How're they expecting us to fill forms for repeaters' exams in 10-15 days without knowing which subjects we've failed?" asked a student. Semester-V repeaters' exam is scheduled on April 18.
'Why should students suffer due to MU's inefficiency?'
"We've demanded that MU should stop the online assessment since this has led to collapse of the examination system. Last year, we adjusted, but this year, we'll not relent. Why should students suffer due to MU's inefficiency," asked Sachin Pawar, President, Students Law Council.
MU yet to announce results of exams held in Nov-Dec
MU is infamous for major goof-ups that gives rise to massive chaos. Last year was a fiasco, with students being incorrectly failed or marked (absent students received marks too!) and results being severely delayed. Meanwhile, the results of 45 exams that were held in November -December haven't been announced yet, and the varsity has already scheduled exams for next semester.
Results will be declared soon, no need to worry: MU
Professors are baffled by the varsity's actions. Meanwhile, MU PRO asked people to keep calm. "Results will be declared soon. So students need not worry. However, the varsity will think about postponing exam," says Vinod Malale, officiating deputy registrar and PRO for MU's exam section.
