Mumbai: New foot over-bridge at Elphinstone Road station by February'18
Beginning March 2018, it will be a lot safer for Mumbaikars to use the Elphinstone Road station, where 23 people were killed in a stampede on September 29. Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis has announced the construction of a new, temporary foot over-bridge connecting Elphinstone and Parel stations. The Indian army's engineering wing is expected to build it by the end of February 2018.
BJP completes three years of power in Maharashtra
The announcement came on Tuesday morning when Fadnavis visited the Elphinstone Road station for inspection with railway minister Piyush Goyal and defense minister Nirmala Sitharaman to mark the Bharatiya Janata Party's three years of rule in Maharashtra. Two other foot over-bridges at Currey Road and Ambivali stations will also be built by the army as part of the project.
Local administration finally wakes up to the needs of commuters
The city administration has been hypervigilant ever since the September 29 stampede, which brought to light its lackadaisical and irresponsible attitude. BJP's Mumbai president Ashish Shelar had met Sitharaman on October 6 to seek the military's help for the construction of six other foot over-bridges. Another 12-metre-wide foot over-bridge is being built north of the existing over-bridge that connects Parel and Elphinstone Road stations.
