Frustrated over debt, fights with mother, Mumbai man attacks wife, children
Mounting debts and relentless fights with his mother drove this Mumbai man to try and kill his wife and three children by stabbing them repeatedly. He then surrendered to the Goregaon police saying that he "had lost his mind." Umesh Gupta (48) initially had planned to wipe out his entire family and then kill himself. He could not do either and so he surrendered.
Man slashed his wife's neck as she was sleeping
Umesh, who runs Rajshree Lottery shop in Pathanwadi, Malad, stayed with his wife Bindu (45), daughters Nikita (24) and Ankita (22), and son Ankit (16) in Goregaon (West). On Tuesday, all of them went to sleep at 11.30 PM. Two hours later, Umesh, in an inebriated state, brought out two knives and slashed his wife's neck and attacked her on leg and stomach.
After wife ran out, he attacked his daughters and son
She ran out of the bedroom, screaming and profusely bleeding. Umesh then hit his daughters on their heads and attacked the son, injuring his right arm and head. The son sustained an arm fracture but the daughters escaped major injury. He then left the house and went to the police. Meanwhile, one of the daughters alerted the neighbors, who rushed them to Siddharth Hospital.
Mother wanted their flat, so he planned the wipeout
Umesh said to the cops that he was making huge losses and had a lot of debt. Additionally, his mother wanted the Goregaon flat for herself and that they fought daily over this. So he planned this complete wipeout. While his wife and son are critical but stable, the daughters are out of danger. Umesh was booked under IPC sections 307 and 326.
