World's biggest cruise ship set to sail in 2024
Sometimes, good 'ship' happens too! In 2024, you will be able to sail in the world's largest cruise ship which is almost ready to take to the seas! You heard that right! If reports are to be believed, Royal Caribbean International's Icon of the Seas recently succeeded in its trials and tests in the open water. It shall be dispatched in October this year.
The cruise ship has been in construction since last year
The Icon of the Seas has been in construction since 2022 in the Meyer Turku shipyard in southern Finland. Per reports, over 450 cruise ship specialists tested the vessel's engines, steering, braking system, hull, vibrations, and noise levels for more than four days to ensure its functionality and safety. Soon, it will be delivered to Royal Caribbean and begin operations in January 2024.
It is 365 meters long and weighs 251,000 tonnes
According to sources, the Icon of the Seas will be a whopping 365 meters long and will weigh approximately 251,000 tonnes. It can easily accommodate 5,600 passengers and 2,300 crew members at once. Additionally, its piece de resistance will be the world's largest at-sea waterpark named Category 6 which will feature six unique, record-breaking waterslides, seven swimming pools, and nine whirlpools!
The vessel has 20 decks, a themed park, and more
Royal Caribbean on its official website states that the Icon of the Seas also offers a "resort getaway," a "beach escape," a theme park, and over "40 ways to dine, drink, and be entertained." It has 20 decks and will also comprise Royal Caribbean's first-ever dueling piano bar. It is going to have "15 buzzing spots and live music avenues" as well.
It will begin its maiden journey from Miami
The Icon of the Seas is scheduled to begin its maiden journey next year from Miami with seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean vacations all year round. Passengers will be able to visit countries like the Bahamas, Mexico, Sint Maarten, and Honduras. The itinerary shall also include visiting the Royal Caribbean's private island, CocoCay. The ticket price per person starts at $1,703.
Currently, Wonder of the Seas is the largest cruise ship
At the moment, Royal Caribbean's Wonder of the Seas is the largest cruise ship in the world. It has 18 decks, measures approximately 360 meters in length, and weighs about 237,000 tonnes.
