Billionaire Warren Buffett's wife complains about $4 coffee
During Allen & Co's exclusive annual gathering in Sun Valley, Idaho, where prominent figures in the US business world convene, an intriguing piece of news emerged online on Thursday. Billionaire Warren Buffett's wife Astrid was overheard whining about the cost of a $4 cup of coffee, remarking that she could purchase a pound of coffee for the same amount from more reasonably priced establishments.
'Could get a pound of coffee': Astrid
Mrs. Buffett, formerly Astrid Menks, reportedly moaned that she "could get a pound of coffee" for the same price somewhere else, according to the New York Post. This remark is particularly surprising and noteworthy, considering her husband, the 92-year-old chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, has a net worth exceeding $115 billion (approximately Rs. 94,000 crore). The couple prioritizes financial prudence and embraces a modest lifestyle.
$4 is reportedly the cheapest coffee
The New York Post reports that at Konditorei, the well-known pastry shop and coffeehouse housed on-site at the upscale Sun Valley resort in Idaho, the cheapest available coffee is priced at $4. Whereas a cup of cold brew coffee costs $5.50, and fancier beverages like the 'Fire Trail' can go up to $6 (nearly Rs. 500) per cup.
Warren Buffett is known for his thriftiness
Despite being one of the richest persons globally, Warren Buffett has a modest spending approach. Buffett lives a relatively frugal life, residing in the same house he purchased decades ago and driving a modest car. He also reportedly clips coupons, buys hail-damaged cars at a discount and buys his breakfast at McDonald's. His frugality is considered a contributing factor to his long-term financial success.
The Buffett couple got married in 2006
Warren was 76 and Astrid was 60, at the time of their marriage in 2006. While Buffett was still married to his first wife, Susan Thompson, the two started dating decades ago. Thompson, who knew about the relationship had given her approval. She passed away in 2004. Warren and Astrid live in a house in Omaha, Nebraska, which Warren purchased in 1958 for $31,000.
Allen & Co's 'summer camp for billionaires'
Warren was reportedly spotted taking a golf buggy during the morning sessions in the camp. Hosted by investment firm Allen and Company, the summer camp is where high-priced deals are made and business relationships are created. Disney CEO Bob Iger, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, Apple CEO Tim Cook, and OpenAI co-founder Sam Altman were among other business titans spotted in attendance this year.
