Expert reveals tips on how you can whiten your teeth
A bright smile has a lot to do with a set of white, shiny teeth. And in the process of attaining that, many people spend a fortune on unpromising treatments. However, Ankit Agarwal, who is the co-founder of Fang Oral Care, says that you can whiten your teeth in the comfort of your home or on a dentist's chair. He shares some tips.
Whitening toothpaste and whitening strips
According to Agarwal, a whitening toothpaste features some gentle abrasives that can remove stains from your teeth. However, he warns that one should not overuse it or brush their teeth too harshly with it as it can damage dental health. Whitening strips is another approach. These strips are coated with peroxide-based gel and can make a significant difference in a few weeks.
Professional home whitening kits and whitening trays
A professional home whitening kit typically includes a serum and an LED light mouthpiece, which effectively brightens your teeth, delivering long-lasting results. According to Agarwal, this treatment yields a naturally whiter shade compared to alternative methods you may consider. He also suggests that dentist-made whitening trays, custom-fitted to your teeth, are highly effective in achieving a bright, white smile.
In-clinic teeth whitening and veneers or bonding
If you are keen on seeing a dentist for white teeth, Agarwal says you can go for in-clinic teeth whitening. "This process involves the use of strong whitening agents and customized trays for instant and more dramatic whitening," he says. However, if stubborn stains persist, the Fang Oral Care co-founders suggest considering veneers or bonding.
What are veneer and bonding?
Agarwal explains that veneer involves applying a thin layer of porcelain that makes your teeth white and bright. On the other hand, bonding is all about putting a composite resin on your teeth to offer you the same results.
Caution: What you should not do
There are things you need to take care of when indulging in any of the above-mentioned at-home or at-clinic teeth whitening treatments. Agarwal says you should never overuse teeth whitening products as they can cause damage. Also, addressing the root problem is more important than handling it on the surface level, hence check for any underlying dental issue causing stains. Always consult a professional.
