Embracing emotions: Know the different types of hugs
Hugs are more than just physical gestures; they are expressions of emotions, connections, and warmth. As per studies, hugs can ease stress and boost cardiovascular health. However, did you know that there are various types of hugs? From friends to family and lovers, each of these hugs communicates different messages. Here is a list of five such hugs and their meanings.
Warm bear hug
Known for its tightness, the bear hug is all-encompassing and speaks volumes about the strength of the bond. Bear hugs are like a normal hug but much closer, tighter, and usually more prolonged. Often shared between close friends and family members, it is a gesture that reflects immense care, warmth, and affection. Bear hugs are usually reserved for the best people in your life.
Hug from behind
These surprise hugs are the ones where your loved ones tightly grab you from behind, making you feel loved. These are not intended for strangers but close friends or family members. These hugs are a sign that your partner or other loved one is feeling particularly devoted to you. These hugs are also meant to display one's thankfulness to someone.
Quick hug
Just as it sounds, a short hug is what it is. A brief bodily contact and lean-in that ends almost as quickly as it began. It can be shared amongst coworkers, acquaintances, family, and even romantic partners. A superficial hug, also known as a courteous hug, shows that the parties involved are not truly at ease or invested in one another.
One-sided hug
In a one-sided hug, one is usually receiving the hug while the other is giving it. It is where a person next to you leans in and wraps an arm over your shoulder or waist, giving you a brief, sweet, and enjoyable hug. The receiver usually is tightly squeezed by the giver. The one-sided hug might truly be comforting for the soul.
The London Bridge hug
The London Bridge Hug is a brief hug where two individuals' upper bodies lean in the direction of one another and connect. Their lower bodies, however, are still clearly separated, demonstrating a formality in their relationship. This kind of embrace is often exchanged in a professional setting and may be accompanied by some level of discomfort for one or both parties.
