Exploring the contemporary bride's fascination with the elegance of white
Indian wedding outfits used to be associated with bright colors, specifically red. However, the gears have started to shift to all-white-themed wedding functions now. Having a white-themed wedding or wearing a white outfit does not look odd today. Brides are now seeking a blend of tradition and modernity, thanks to celebrities for popularizing this trend for weddings.
Traditionally, only seen in Christian weddings
White has always been popular with Christian weddings but was never a traditional Indian bridal color. "White wasn't a go to before as the color was associated with mourning, but now it is being used to achieve a modern chic minimalistic look," says Renesa Rastogi, designer, Label RCKC Aurum. Today brides choose white for even pre-wedding events like engagement and cocktail parties.
Increasing popularity, thanks to Bollywood
It is safe to say that the trend of wearing a white bridal outfit has mainly been popularised by celebrity weddings. A case in point is Alia Bhatt's white Sabyasachi saree paired with elaborate gold embroidery and Kundan jewelry. Actress Richa Chadha too opted for an ivory and gold sharara set for her wedding where she looked absolutely angelic.

Fashion designers elevate their craft to new heights
Taking a cue from the celebrity weddings, brides today are experimenting with all kinds of whites for their special day. Further, renowned fashion designers too are playing a pivotal role in popularizing white outfits within the context of Indian weddings. "They are designing white ensembles that cater to the preferences of modern couples while keeping cultural sensitivities intact," says Rastogi.
Ivory and gold are in trend now
Brides today are breaking norms with confidence. Choosing a white bridal attire is a declaration of embracing uniqueness. Brides are confidently making decisions based on their particular preferences rather than adhering to cultural norms. "Now, many young brides and bridesmaids are picking ivory, gold and even all-white lehengas, and it's possibly one of the most popular bridal colors this year!" says Rastogi.
Variety of styles available in white today
Today, white bridal outfits are available in a myriad of styles today. From ethereal gowns to elegant lehengas, brides can choose a white outfit that aligns with their vision of a dream wedding. Additionally, white offers accessories with a versatile background. Brides can play around with colorful accessories, brilliant flowers, or even bold makeup to create a startling contrast that enhances their overall appearance.
White also provides a visual treat
Another reason why brides are going for whites is that white bridal outfits offer breathtaking visuals in photographs and videos. The purity of white against a backdrop of traditional decor and vivid colors creates a visual contrast that's both mesmerizing and enchanting. Besides, white bridal outfits celebrate the beauty of simplicity rather than being overshadowed by elaborate ensembles.
