When in Norway, you must visit these national parks
Norway's landscapes are simply stunning. The iconic images of the country are proof. When it comes to camping, the national parks in Norway are heaven. Whether you want to just wander through enormous forests, ski on the beautiful slopes during winter, or climb jagged granite mountains, the parks have it all. Here we have created a list of the country's most attractive national parks.
Stabbursdalen National Park
Stabbursdalen National Park consists of high, lonely mountains and deep valleys, unique geological formations, attractive watercourses, and moor landscapes with crystal-clear mountain lakes. The park and protected landscape region offer a variety of short and long hikes in picturesque surroundings. This park is most popular for its water activities. You can fish in the 60-kilometer-long Stabburselva River or other mountain lakes.
Jotunheimen National Park
Jotunheimen has over 250 mountains that are nearly 2000 meters high, including the 2469-meter-high Galdhpiggen. The glacier-scarred terrain is surrounded by turquoise-colored lakes, waterfalls, and rivers. Major activities here include hiking, riding, climbing, or skiing. Despite its remoteness, this area is easily accessible through its 50-odd hiking trails, including Besseggen Ridge and the Falketind and Galdhopiggen peaks.
Femundsmarka National Park
The magnificent pathways and trails that weave their way around the marshes and lakes give a sense of serenity to the park. The low-lying hills and mountains with birds flying over provide a magnificent backdrop to the water bodies. Trees in the park stay rooted until they die, transforming into silver-gray color before falling to the ground.
Rondane National Park
With about 10 peaks over 2000 meters in height, it is the oldest national park in Norway. Between these mountains are a series of valleys, canyons, and low-lying scrubs and forests. It is one of the few areas in Europe where hikers can see raindeers. Other notable wildlife spotted in the park include bears, lynxes, moose, musk oxen, deer, and wolves.
Forlandet National Park
Located right on the west coast of the Svalbard archipelago, the park comprises huge swathes of sea, alpine mountains, and colossal glaciers. The walruses that lounge on the beaches and the stone seals and guillemots that live there are fascinating to watch. A great way to enjoy this place is by taking a boat excursion along the sea cliffs.
