Planning your kitchen? Here are some essential design tips
Your kitchen is the heart of your home. Hence, you need to be extra careful while planning and designing it. We say so because not only does your kitchen space need to be highly functional, you'd also want it to look pretty and inspiring. Here's how you can design the kitchen of your dreams, without compromising on its functionality at all.
Functionality comes first; Think about lighting
Functionality: When designing or redesigning your kitchen space, functionality should be your top priority. Plan the sink, fridge, and cooktop to form a triangle, with no more than 6 feet distance between each for better movement. Lighting: Unlike other rooms, overhead lighting isn't good enough for kitchens. Make sure the light falls in front of you so you can focus entirely on the cooking.
It's all about the storage; Choose the right surface
Storage: Perhaps the biggest mistake you can make while planning your kitchen is not allowing enough space. So, put overhead cabinets right up to the ceiling and consider deep drawers to make the most of the space. Surface: The grout in tiles is hard to maintain and stainless steel gets scratches quite easily. Choose a surface that's both easy to work on and manage.
Mind the safety quotient; Consider ventilation
Safety: Never take the safety value for granted while designing your kitchen. Make sure you have good visibility of the backyard/play area to keep a check on the kids. Also, ensure rounded countertops, slip-resistant flooring and ovens at good height to avoid accidents. Ventilation: Install a good-quality exhaust hood to ventilate cooking odors in a quiet and efficient manner.
Tip #7: What about the flooring?
As far as flooring is concerned, you want something that's slip-resistant and easy to maintain. Hardwood floors may look nice, but they wear out faster around the fridge, stove and sink areas. On the other hand, hard natural stone works wonders and looks classy too.
