How to dress like the boss without being bossy
Dressing like a boss without being one requires balancing portraying authority and coming across as demanding. How you wear your clothes and the message you send to your colleagues at the workplace are just as important as the clothes themselves. Finding a mix that conveys assurance, skill, and an approachable demeanor is crucial. Yash Singhal, founder of Hancock Fashion shares some styling tips.
Powerful and polished
A boss-type attire should look professional but not overly formal. Choose clothes that are ideally suited to fit your body form, Singhal suggests. "Even a well-fitted shirt and a trouser can work wonders. Don't be afraid to wear classic hues like white, blue, and grey but add a splash of color or a distinct detail to showcase your uniqueness," he adds.
Invest in quality material
According to Singhal, quality says a lot about one's personality. Thus, it is essential to invest in long-lasting items that are well-made. "The fabric and mastery of your clothing, as well as the small details like buttons, stitching, and finishing, all signify quality over quantity," he adds. Additionally, ensure that your attire fits you impeccably, emphasizing your best features and creating a polished appearance.
Add some confidence boosters
"Choose a quality pair of cufflinks, a watch, a stylish belt, or a tasteful piece of jewelry," says Singhal. These subtle additions can convey confidence without overpowering your presence. "Additionally, invest in high-quality, comfortable footwear that compliments your outfit. Clean, polished shoes are a must. A proper pair of shoes along with matching socks, says a lot about your personality," the expert says.
Importance of grooming
Never undervalue the power of grooming. Personal grooming is an essential part of dressing like a boss. Half of your confidence comes from a well-groomed appearance. "Maintain a well-groomed appearance with neat hair, clean nails, and impeccable hygiene," Singhal says. "A well-shaved or well-kept beard can also contribute to a polished look in men," he adds.
Body language
Keep in mind that your attitude is equally as crucial as what you are wearing, reminds the expert. "Make eye contact, stand tall, and extend a warm handshake. Your presence will be improved by having an upright posture. If you don't have strong body language, dressing professionally may not always be enough," Sighal says. So, stride confidently, maintain eye contact, and speak with assurance.
