Creative corner makeovers: Revamp your home's neglected spaces
Corners are often overlooked in interior designs. However, you can always convert the unused spaces in your room into innovative focal points, drawing attention and enhancing your room's appeal. NewsBytes touched base with some experts to understand a few hacks to deco up the corners. These simple yet effective ideas can transform your nooks into charming, functional, and stylish additions to your home.
Introduce green corners
"Transform neglected corners into green oases with potted plants or vertical gardens. Lush greenery not only adds life to the space but also purifies the air and creates a calming ambiance," says Devyani Gupta, founder and spokesperson, Vakr Studio. The introduction of greenery, whether through potted plants or a tall indoor tree, breathes life into these otherwise neglected spaces while improving indoor air quality.
Add wall-mounted shelves
Sajal Lamba, co-founder and director of Wriver, recommends installing floating or wall-mounted corner shelves, serving as versatile displays for books, decorative items, and potted plants. "These not only optimize space but also enhance the visual interest of your room," Lamba adds. You can add a touch of personality by displaying decorative items, framed photos, or collectibles. It also maximizes storage and minimizes clutter.
Bring in warm textures with wooden veneers
"Wooden veneers, with their natural and warm textures, have become a versatile choice for corner decorations," says Akhilesh Chitlangia, executive director and COO of Duroply Industries Ltd. According to him, veneers add depth and character to an otherwise dull space. The range of veneers available, allows you to experiment with various wood types, colors, and patterns, giving you the freedom to craft unique designs.
Add mirrors to corners
Mirrors strategically placed in corners can make a room feel more spacious. "Large mirrors can create an illusion of space and reflect light, enhancing the room's overall ambiance, especially when framed artistically," says Lamba. The expert suggests considering a statement mirror with an ornate frame as it can serve as a centerpiece of your corner decor and a center of attraction in the room.
Create a cozy reading corner
"Create a cozy reading corner with a comfortable armchair, soft throws, and a bookshelf. Add a floor lamp for warm lighting, and you will have a perfect spot to unwind with a good book," suggests Gupta. An accent chair in a corner can provide a cozy reading nook or relaxation spot, especially when accompanied by decorative throw pillows.
Turn your corner into a gallery wall
Transform a corner into a mini art gallery by arranging a collection of framed artwork or photographs. A gallery wall can reshape corners into personal showcases and create a visually engaging corner. "Experiment with different sizes and layouts to create a visually striking display. Consider adding a statement piece like a large, eye-catching painting to be the focal point," Lamba recommends.
