How to keep your home fresh and clean during monsoon
Monsoon season is here washing away all the heat. However, it can be a nightmare if you do not take good care and clean your house. Invest in some good cleaning practices to remove the leaks, fungus, cracks, eerie sounds, and chipping paint in the house. Here are a few steps you can try out at your homes.
Prevent insect infestation
The warm, humid conditions brought on by the monsoon are ideal for insects and other bothersome critters. As a result, it is common to witness insects crawling inside and outside of your home. Be careful of mosquitoes, termites and earthworms. Although the majority of these insects are benign, some can damage furniture and walls and even spread diseases.
Treat damp walls
Damp walls covered in mold serve as a nostalgic reminder of the monsoon season. The presence of moisture indicates a clogged rain gutter, leading to water accumulation on the roof and wall seepage. It's crucial to address clogged gutters and plumbing leaks before or at the start of the monsoon. You may use waterproof sealers or putty to repair damaged walls.
Have good ventilation in washrooms
Bathrooms demand additional attention due to the inherent moisture in the environment. Ensuring the area is appropriately ventilated and the exhaust is functioning properly does half the job. Fix a net in front of any apertures to keep insects or birds out. Wipe down the walls and corners with disinfectants every other day to prevent any water buildup and foul odor.
Wash clothes immediately
Monsoon season will lead to many rain-soaked or puddle-splashed clothes. However, wet clothing should never be thrown in a bucket with dry clothing and left there for a week before being removed to be laundered since the odor they produce might ruin your home. Use laundry hampers or baskets in the bathroom and bedrooms to handle damp garments without making a mess.
Be careful about wooden furniture
While wooden furniture has a classic and exquisite appeal, it also has a lot of maintenance requirements and must be cleaned daily during the rainy season. To stop moisture from harming furniture such as cabinets, chairs, beds, etc., treat them with lacquer or varnish. The same goes for wooden doors and windows. If you struggle to open and close them, then sandpaper the doors.
