UK: This 34-year-old grandmom is often mistaken for daughter's sister
In an unusual occurrence, a woman from Edinburgh, United Kingdom become a grandmom at the age of 34. Reportedly, Rachel McIntyre who welcomed her first grandchild about three weeks ago, become one of the youngest grandmoms in the UK. The young grandmother who is a mother of two is also a model on the social media platform OnlyFans.
McIntyre was just 15 when she became pregnant
McIntyre was only 15 years old when she became pregnant for the first time. She had her concerns when she learned that her daughter, who was then 17 years old, was expecting last year since she is aware of the challenges associated with being a young, full-time mother. Although shocked at first, McIntyre knew that she will be supporting her daughter as well.
People are often shocked
The 34-year-old said that she still gets asked for ID since she looks so young. "It's annoying, but it's a bit of a compliment too," she told Caters News. According to her people often think she is her daughter's sister and not mother. They are even more at shock when they discover that she is also a grandmother.
'Traumatizing to see a young daughter go through labor'
McIntyre said that it was difficult to watch her young daughter go into labor, even though she is enjoying settling into her new role as a grandmother. To witness her 17-year-old daughter go through labor was "quite traumatizing." Although the labor was challenging, she said she's grateful that her granddaughter is a good baby. McIntyre also has a 10-year-old daughter.
Biggest advantage: not too old
The biggest benefit of being a young grandmother, according to McIntyre is that I have a lot more energy. "When my granddaughter is a bit older, I can take her out to places and I won't be tired like older grannies," she says. McIntyre admitted that she hasn't been judged for being a young grandma yet, but won't be bothered when it happens.
